Final Four hero Ogunbowale lifts Notre Dame to title

Ogunbowale made it both times and she and her teammates now are champions.

The huge crowds weren't just at the Final Four this weekend. Notre Dame vs Mississippi State live stream is on WatchESPN.

Notre Dame's women's basketball team are the 2018 national champions after a thrilling 61-58 victory over Mississippi State on Sunday in Columbus, Ohio.

"When I saw it travel a little bit, I thought [it was going in]", Ogunbowale told reporters after the game. "You feel like that should have been the championship game".

"He said it was his fault because he didn't get us home", Blair said.

Stat of the game: McCowan still got her numbers, but she wasn't almost as impactful in this game as she was in the other five Mississippi State tournament games.

The final shot, which fell through the net with 0.1 seconds left, was Ogunbowale's first 3-pointer of the game; she finished with 18 points. It beat Purdue 68-66 to win the 2001 national title.

MSU again started the second quarter sluggish on offense, but remained aggressive on defense holding Notre Dame to three points in the quarter. On Friday, the Irish added one more win - their biggest of the season - taking down the Connecticut Huskies by a score of 91-89 in overtime. McGraw is trying to join the company of those coaches who are multiple national title award winners.

Then a timeout was called by each coach and set up an out of bounds play just in front of the coaches seats on the Notre Dame bench. It's not only been a wild Final Four for McGraw and her team, but an entire season as well. "Her and her staff do a tremendous job", Schaefer said at a press conference on Saturday. It lost to SC 67-55 last season. "It was a five-point swing". She said after the game that she drew inspiration from one fan in particular for her game-winning shot.

It was the second straight game that the junior guard hit a shot in the final second to carry the Irish. The Irish are one of the best teams in the country in terms of rebounding margin and they average 15 2nd chance points per game. She did it twice Friday night, passing to William and Victoria Vivians for 3-pointers, the latter cross-court from the left post late in the third quarter. Teaira McCowan has eight points and nine rebounds, giving her a record 76 rebounds in an NCAA Tournament. Notre Dame stormed back with a 3-pointer from Marina Mabrey and a bucket from Jackie Young, who was the breakout star of Friday's win over CT with 32 points. She had a feeling the second time around.

McGraw's teams had fallen short four times in seven years in the title game, losing in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015. Her 6-4 frame might be needed to help 6-4 Jessica Shepard or even 6-2 Kathryn Westbeld against McCowan. They shot 30 percent in the first half and had 12 turnovers.

MSU point guard Morgan William's shot sealed a 66-64 overtime upset win for the Bulldogs over a UConn team that had won the last four consecutive national championships and had a 111-game winning streak. With that said, the ND zone is hard to navigate as it's more of a match-up zone that typically won't play to spots like you see most teams play in a 2-3. The Irish lost the previous four.
