WWE Fastlane: Styles and Flair successfully defend titles

Tonight, SmackDown Live hosts WWE's last Pay-Per-View before WrestleMania: Fastlane.

With WWE Fastlane now in the books, the road to WrestleMania 34 is all clear and New Orleans is the next stop on the WWE pay-per-view schedule.

The main event was the Six Pack Challenge for the WWE Title that included AJ Styles, John Cena, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler.

SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions The Usos were in the middle of defending their title against The New Day (with Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston working the match). The team of Natalya and Carmella beat Becky Lynch and Naomi in an average effort. However, at the end of all of it, it was AJ Styles hitting Owens with the phenomenal forearm for the win. No offense to any of the rest of these competitors, but when Shinsuke Nakamura won the Royal Rumble, he said he wanted to face AJ Styles. There were multiple series of wrestlers hitting finishers and being stopped by someone else in the match. And Styles, who's been one of the WWE's best performers since joining the company in 2016, has proved himself worthy of main eventing, or at least having the second-to-final match at WrestleMania.

My only real issue here was that the match never really got going, with the finish, despite being well executed, just coming "outta nowhere".

Orton's match with Roode was one of his better matches in recent memory. Have YOUR say in the comments section below, and the fourth episode of GiveMeSport's WWE podcast is here!

The night's co-main event featured Charlotte Flair's defense of her Smackdown women's championship against Ruby Riott. This has at times been extremely grating because the first half of his career consisted at times of Super Cena using sheer brute strength to overcome his opponents and very predictable matches. These teams seem destined for a tag team title match on the grandest stage of them all. Cena, despite losing what he deemed his one ticket to WrestleMania, congratulated Styles and raised the champ's hand up in victory after the cameras stopped rolling.

SmackDown women's champion Charlotte Flair also has her Wrestlemania match confirmed, after Raw star and women's Royal Rumble victor Asuka announced that she would be challenging Charlotte next month. And, of course, the saga of Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and Shane McMahon continued.
