Soon iOS 11.3 will be released which will undo the throttling of the performance on older devices. So, let's dive in to see what the company might have in store for us with iOS 12.
One source close to the situation told Bloomberg, "This change is Apple beginning to realize that schedules are not being hit [and] stuff is being released with bugs".
Apple apparently wants all this chaos to end as much as its fans do, which is why it's apparently made a decision to focus on 2 years of phased updates to the iPhone and iPad.
Software chief Craig Federighi spoke to his team about the new strategy last month, according to the source. However, others pointed to past, more serious leaks, such as that for Windows NT/2000, and noted that iOS researchers have already likely reverse-engineered considerable portions of Apple's code.
In the past, "Apple's smaller scale helped it build better-quality software than the rest of the market", says Steven Troughton-Smith, a veteran app developer.
Patients of Penn Medicine and Pennsylvania's Geisinger Health System will be participating in this new feature, enabling records of patients' immunizations, allergies, lab tests, and medications to be organized in the app. The company is looking at updating FaceTime with support for multi-person video conferencing; however, that may not be ready for this year.
Guttman's report largely focuses on what iOS 12 won't bring with it, though, adding weight to earlier rumours that Apple is planning to nix significant updates to iOS this year in favour of focusing on stability and security. Beyond Split View, developers will be able to integrate tabs much more easily to switch between multiple documents and views.
The New York Post states Apple was aware of the leak well before it was published to Github - the "low-level" Apple employee has reportedly signed an NDA and is refusing to divulge further information. The ability for several people to play augmented reality games is also planned.
The Do Not Disturb feature is also reported to be getting an upgrade, with new improvements that will expand a user's control over what notifications they want to receive and when.
Gizbot reports that the upcoming AppleiOS 12 will bring various features, including the capability of running the iPhone apps on the Mac devices.
However, the focus on the quality of features and their availability is the main concern for the company at this point in time.
