Emma: Brian Urlacher, Chicago's Humble Star, Now A Hall Of Famer

Brian Dawkins, who was Owens' teammate with the Philadelphia Eagles and also was voted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday, said he hoped Owens can let go of the grudges that were building when he got passed over. During his career, Owens was named to six Pro Bowls and was a first-team All-Pro five times. After all, members of this exclusive club represent the National Football League. are its most visible ambassadors. and similar character questions have kept the controversial Terrell Owens out of the Hall during his first two years of eligibility. In addition, linebacker Robert Brazile and offensive guard Jerry Kramer were senior finalists voted in by the veterans committee, while former National Football League excecutive Bobby Bethard made it as a contributor, also selected by the veterans committee. He was a nine-time Pro Bowl selection and received All-Pro honors four times.

Moss will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Aug. 4 in Canton, Ohio. Asked who thinks of when he is asked about a Hall of Famer, Urlacher didn't hesitate. He rushed for 1,973 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior, which led to an All-American recognition as well as being named the Georgia Player of the Year.

Urlacher was moved to learn there are just 318 members to the Hall of Fame, and just 28 linebackers.

Moss ranks fourth in receiving yards (15,292), 15th in receptions (982) and second in receiving touchdowns (156). But their inclusion would still leave a gaping hole from the late 1980s through the turn of the century, an era in which the two best pure safeties were members of the Broncos Ring of Fame: Lynch and Steve Atwater, a Hall of Fame finalist in 2016.

The announcement was made in Minneapolis the day before Super Bowl LII. In his 45th year of eligibility, this was his 11th time as a finalist.

Heck, the fact that Owens even played in Super Bowl 39 with a badly injured ankle should be the kind of memory that changes perceptions about him. From that group, no more than five will be selected.

Last year, John Lynch, known as a former Pro Bowl safety, added a new title: 49ers general manager.

That the selection committee understood in the end there could be no justification for inducting Lewis and not Urlacher, or Moss and not Owens is testament to the outstanding job they did with this class. When you play this game and you put your heart and soul into this game, to be rewarded with that gold jacket, it's speaks volumes.

They were among the best to ever play at those spots-the definition of a Hall of Famer. Owens was perceived as more of an individual player than a team player. "Like I said with Charles Haley and everyone else, if the voters don't like you, they will keep you out just to prove a point". He had one 1,000-yard season in his first four years and then exploded in the fifth season of his career, catching 97 passes for 1,451 yards and 13 touchdown passes.
