Turkey's air and ground offensive, now into its fourth day, is targeting US -backed Kurdish YPG fighters in Afrin, near the Turkish border.
More than 2,000 U.S. special forces backed by air power work with the Kurdish YPG, under the banner of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) east of the Euphrates to fight the Islamic State jihadist group.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday renewed a threat to extend the offensive east to the city of Manbij, which is under the control of USA -backed Syrian Kurdish fighters.
World powers involved in the Syrian conflict meanwhile called on the Turkish military to exercise restraint because it risked exacerbating the country's humanitarian crisis. "We will not live with fear and threats", Cavusoglu said.
