Doug Pederson Addresses Team: 'We're Going To The Super Bowl, Boys!'
Jan 23 2018 by Dustin Murphy
"It's not to go to the Super Bowl". Just to be on a team that wins these kinds of games, it's just a great accomplishment.
The Minneapolis Miracle only further served to evidence this was the Vikings' year. "And they're a really good team". Any momentum that might have carried over from last week was squashed.
The Eagles surprised sports fans on Sunday night by beating the Minnesota Vikings 38-7 for the NFC championship, qualifying them for the Super Bowl on February 4 at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
And to make things worse for the team from the NFC North, a number of other National Football League players took to Twitter to troll Minnesota after their heartbreaking loss. "To our fans, I'm sorry we let y'all down".
After beating the Vikings in the NFC Championship Game, Johnson steered his comments to a new subject. Against Minnesota, Philadelphia forced three turnovers, including a strip sack and a 50-yard Patrick Robinson pick six.
Dion Lewis had a sub-par game running the ball as he ended with just 34 yards on the ground, which isn't surprising as the Pats had to essentially abandon the run early on. Sunday's loss falls into the latter category.
"When they went up seven, we were like, 'Hey, they gave us their best shot, '" defensive end Brandon Graham said. I'm just so proud of everyone on our team, we made so many great plays. Just coming up short, you could feel the pain, and you could also feel the passion of what this city wants. Philadelphia fans were familiar with the backup quarterback stepping into the fray, but familiarity with Nick Foles did not breed confidence.
And the teams featured the Nos.
The Vikings' defense wasn't at 100 percent. Despite being on the road, the Vikings were slight favorites. After the first two possessions of the game, the Eagles ripped off 38 unanswered points for their third NFC championship in franchise history.
- On Sept. 11, 2017, Bradford started the Vikings' 29-19 win over the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football, and he completed 27 of 32 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns. Now, they will have to face off against the best in the NFC, the Philadelphia Eagles, and see if they can bring home another championship. And he crushed them. In 13 games, Wentz had thrown for 33 touchdowns and 3,296 yards. Eagles pass-catchers kept getting open off of play-action fakes and well-executed double moves, helping Foles post a almost flawless 149.3 passer rating on throws 20-plus yards downfield.
Foles' best work might have come against Minnesota (14-4) and its vaunted defence that was torn apart in every manner.
In terms of playoff failure, the Vikings have been through a lot, too.
Another trend that was blown up on Sunday: The Vikings' defense struggled on third down. And they've fully embraced that role, with Johnson and other players in recent weeks. Gronkowski left the game with a concussion, throwing his status for the Super Bowl in question for a second straight season.
They had more faith than most, but the Eagles are two wins away from a parade. Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, an economics major at Georgetown, is known for his use of analytics in preparing players for any possible situation.
The Vikings, who finished 14-4, do need to shore up the offensive line. The oft-injured Sam Bradford seems unlikely to be back. "Nick Foles is playing back to the height of his career".
