Ag Hall hosts 50th Community Thanksgiving Dinner

For days, volunteers with the Community Kitchen cooked over a hot stove preparing ingredients needed to make warm cooked meals.

"We do this with lots of volunteers, and of course, we'd always like to have more", he said.

Barber thanked the numerous local vendors who donated food.

Spearheading the meal preparation for the past decade was Marvin UMC member Mary Eashpreparation, Eash, who said the church has partnered with Grovetown United Methodist Church for the past three or four years.

"This is great", Barber said. "This is the first time we've been by ourselves in 42 years of marriage", Dan said.

Church member Heather Housel is one of the many volunteers who have participated in the dinner in each of its eight years.

"We eat here on Thanksgiving and we eat here on Christmas with everyone else", Barrows, 62, said. "This is Wausau, right here this is the heart of Wausau coming in and sharing a meal together", said Black. Visitors may be in need but they don't have to be.

And next is a table filled to overflowing with meals that were to be delivered or picked up.

Sunny and Shanna Klein, of Redlands, both from Bethany Reformed Church, volunteer their morning to deliver Thanksgiving meals to seniors on Thursday, Nov. 23 2017, in Redlands.

The meal will be served from 11 a.m.to 2 p.m.at Zion Lutheran Church, 1000 Washington Ave., Cloquet.

"What better thing to do on a Thanksgiving Day than to help other people?" asked one volunteer. They'll do anything for the people in the community.

"I don't know how many years it's been, but it's been a long, long time".

"We will go find someone to give them to".

"A mixture of all kinds of people that just want to come for the camaraderie and socializing", said Duane Ehrens, a Basin Electric food service coordinator who volunteered to prepare turkeys.

"That's what Christian values are all about", Barber added.
