Of course, champions are the standard with the Yankees. Believe me. The winning streak was only a dry run. By this time next week, it will be down to the final two in the both leagues and once again the odds to win the 2017 World Series will shift. #MLB.com indicates that the Yankeesbullpen ranked first in the Majors in WAR (9.2, per Fangraphs), strikeouts per nine innings (10.9), strikeout percentage (29.1) and opponents' average (.201). The Twins did not go down without a fight, however, as the club got off to a hot start only to have the Yankees match. Boston is a wonderful sports town.
This title would have a little extra oomph in that it's the first post-Derek Jeter title. NY has an offense that can hit the ball out of the park at any time with players like Judge, Gary Sanchez, and Todd Frazier. But my gut says the biggest surprise of what should be a sensational postseason will be the Yankees beating the Indians in the AL Division Series. In fact, the Indians are the only team in the AL whose cache of relievers can stack up with New York's. The Yankees have a very good team in their own right and the people who are counting them out may look foolish.
This could be the start of something for the D-backs, this year and in the long term. "But then the guys that have kind of burst onto the scene, Green and even Adam Warren. they have had some kind of year". They won 102 games, they have stars all over the field, and they nearly won the World Series previous year. "You see the resolve, and they never get down". "This year, we're going to try to make sure we win the last game". They have a new cast of characters now, though.
But it's tough to believe they led the Central Division by only a half-game at 48-45 after dropping five of their first six games coming out of the All-Star break. We love Ben Reiter, but that's a media story more than a baseball one. He was widely criticized in Cleveland for the move, which came three years before his infamous decision to announce on national TV that he was leaving as a free agent for Miami. However, Yan and Roberto are known mainly for their defense. Graded on the 2017 wild-card game curve, it was a quality start. He conceded, though, that going through the postseason in 2016 will help the Indians know how to deal with distractions this time around.
BRANTLEY'S BACK: Michael Brantley watched last year's postseason ride. And obviously, (it's been) after a loss when I've pitched the best. The Dodgers have been too good for too long to keep falling short.
That my friends is what they call "lights out" when it comes to the back end of a pitching staff.
Despite his hometown team's success, James told The Post a year ago that he will always be a Yankees fan, as well.
