Borussia Dortmund Champions League

- A brace from Cristiano Ronaldo helped two-time defending champion Real Madrid to a 3-1 win at Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday.

An adorable Real Madrid fan became a social media star after executing a ideal imitation of Cristiano Ronaldo's trademark celebration during his match-winning display against Borussia Dortmund.

There was a moment of controversy three minutes before Bale's opener, when Maximilian Philipp turned the ball goalwards only to see it deflected onto the raised hand of Sergio Ramos. He has now scored 411 goals with Real Madrid.

Real Madrid staged a clinical chance conversion and scored with their next chance as Gareth Bale sprinted away on the left wing and square passed into the box where Ronaldo tapped home the two-goal lead in the 50th minute.

After the break it was more of the same for Real Madrid as Ronaldo was the beneficiary of Bale's fine work down the left-wing, when the former Spurs man laid the ball into the path of his onrushing team-mate who netted the second for Real. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continued his goal scoring run for Dortmund, pulling a goal back in the 54th.

Real Madrid produced a "brilliant" performance to put their domestic woes behind them by beating Borussia Dortmund 3-1 in the Champions League. In the Champions League, "yellow-black" immediately felt all the delights of being in the "death group".

Atletico Madrid will try to extend its successful home streak when it makes its Champions League debut at the new Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Wednesday against Chelsea. Zinedine Zidane's side have 11 points from six games but defeated APOEL 3-0.

The Portuguese star does not seem in his form after suspension. Early this season, though, Bale had been slowly turning things around, and on Tuesday, he declared to the world that he's exactly where he belongs. "For us the difficulty is to maintain that high level over the season".

Dries Mertens and Jose Callejon added goals in the second half as the Italians registered their first points of the campaign. This is a tough place to come and they're a side that can make your life hard, but we delivered a great performance.

And it almost worked.
