Historically the Trojans are 4-0 against the Longhorns, with one loss vacated due to NCAA penalty; original record, 4-1. Up front, they made life hard for Ronald Jones and the USC running game that never really got going. Our whole offense was just working on giving him confidence by telling him to keep his head up when things didn't go good, and not to get too high when things are going good.

Although the Trojans escaped the Coliseum with a narrow win, Helton must find a way to get their offensive flowing in a more consistent manner. The drama and intensity - if not the talent level and star power - was reminiscent of the last time these two gridiron blue-bloods met; back in the 2006 Rose Bowl with the national championship on the line. This was a game that many people thought the Longhorns had no chance to win and yet pushed a Top-5 team down to the wire.

Sam Darnold isn't flawless.

Freshman quarterback Sam Ehlinger played "some grown-up football" in the second half, coach Tom Herman said. I think the defense was excited to go back out because they were having fun out there. He is great in the pocket.

"I (saw) the ball in the air, and I just had to go get it".

But you can not deny this team left the historic building feeling good about itself.

USC held Texas scoreless for most of the first half, and the Longhorns still only had 10 points (off defense and special teams) late in the fourth quarter before their last go-ahead drive in regulation. "It was more important for us, for our season". And in his lone performance, Buechele completed 65 percent of his passes for 375 yards and two touchdowns, despite being sacked five times, being under consistent pressure and having virtually no running game to rely upon.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Texas (1-2) scored its first offensive touchdown of the game with 0:45 remaining in regulation. He had not carried more than four times in a game before last week.

Texas' mercurial use of the running game may continue.

Fellow Pac-12 rival Washington was also knocked down a spot from No. 6 to No. 7, while Stanford dropped out of the ranking entirely following their loss to San Diego State. USC Trojans won in double over-time 27-24.

"The play before, they ran the quarterback draw up the middle", said USC defensive back Ajene Harris, who recovered the fumble. The junior quarterback finished with 381 yards of combined total offense and three total touchdowns while throwing his first interception. This game lived up to all the week-long hype as both teams played with fire and energy the entire game. There is no timetable on his return at this point and a further update will be provided following surgery, according to the Texas staff.

It may not have been pretty for the first 60 minutes of play, but a double-overtime win by No. 4 USC will leave a memorable image of a walk-on kicker, Chase McGrath, nailing a 43-yard field goal to lock down a double overtime victory over Texas. The Red Raiders have tried to bolster their defense with some junior college transfers in the secondary, plus linebacker Dakota Allen - their second-leading tackler as a freshman in 2015 - returned after a season of his own in junior college.

Leinart, the Trojans' former Heisman Trophy winning passer, was honored after the first quarter for his induction this year into the College Football Hall of Fame.
