Apple Announces Smart Speaker, Device Upgrades, and iOS 11

Such a speaker is expected to serve as a butler as well as an outlet for listening to music

HomePod is positioned as a rival to Amazon Echo. Apple HomePod can be paired with Apple iPhone 5s and above, and any devices running iOS 11.

To be "smart", the latest product in Apple's portfolio, known as HomePod, comes with a A8 microprocessor chip, the same power engine in the company's flagship iPhone smartphone and iPad tablet computer. Siri, a digital assistant that has been on Apple's iPhone since 2011, will be voice activated to respond to requests for information and other help around the house. That way, you can plan your trip or ask the speaker to translate words for you.

People with smart speakers can use them to control home appliances such as toasters, refrigerators and clothes dryers.

Planned Mac updates will include refreshed versions of the MacBook and MacBook Pro with faster Intel Corp. processors, Bloomberg News reported earlier this month. So in case, you might be in an area from where you aren't able to reach out to the speaker, you can always do so via the speaker.

Packing a smarter Siri and some fancily-named musical talents, it's looking to simultaneously suplex Sonos and arm-wrestle Amazon's Echo family. You're a Pandora devotee? But the Amazon executive in charge of Alexa and the Amazon Echo said he'd welcome the idea.

The new driving mode silences notifications, turns the phone's display off, and can automatically reply to messages to warn friends that you are driving.

When it comes to mobile assistance, Google Now and Apple's Siri are well developed. "If you are paying the extra money because Apple is requiring you to do so to access your stuff that is the Apple tax and it is the kind of thing that people don't like". That same situation will hold true for any number of things you might want the HomePod to do for you.

The problem here is that Apple has said HomePod will work with Apple Music, but not mentioned any other services.

The company has pitched HomePod first and foremost as a music player. Apple's wireless multi-speaker system allows users to listen to music throughout the home, similar to HomePod's ability to chain together speakers. But smart speakers of the modern days have dumped that priority and instead have been toiling to improve its AI prowess. But then you don't get AirPlay 2 support, so it isn't likely to be as seamless an experience. Well yes, she's in there all right, the familiar lady you have wasted countless time with while asking ridiculous questions and occasionally using rude language toward, is once again ready to respectfully take whatever you can dish out. That's a big bummer! But it's not clear if it will. Given Apple's credibility at offering quality products, be rest assured of the HomePod to be able to drown the senses of even the most ardent of music fans.

As well as its obvious qualities as a smart speaker (Siri can tell you who a certain musician is in the song you're listening to), the device can be used to control other HomeKit devices; check the weather forecast; and listen to news briefings.

EMarketer estimates 35.6 million Americans will use voice-enabled speakers such as the Amazon Echo or Google Home at least once a month, an increase of 129 percent over a year ago.

This year's event has just been held, and as well as the consumer releases there was plenty for business customers to fawn over, too.
