Chiefs Release Veteran WR Jeremy Maclin

In a surprising Friday evening announcement, Jeremy Maclin has been cut from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Maclin caught two touchdown passes with a total of 44 receptions and 536 yards last season, after gaining over 1,000 two years ago.

Maclin had a nice five-year stint with the Eagles after being selected by Philadelphia in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

"I'd like to thank Jeremy for his effort and dedication the past two seasons", Kansas City general manager John Dorsey said in a statement.

Would love to have a guy like him on our team competing and coming out and making plays for us.

Reid added that he respected how Maclin goes about what he does and how professional he is in handling himself. In Baltimore, Maclin is guaranteed to see a hundred passes thrown his way, especially with Pitta injured, Steve Smith Sr. retired and Kamar Aiken signed with the Indianapolis Colts in free agency. The rookie wide receiver would also make an impact in the running game, rushing for 267 yards and three touchdowns. And by not playing well, I feel like I let my team down.

Maclin was just married last weekend, and Andy Reid was among the guests. Mornhinweg was Maclin's offensive coordinator for his first four seasons in the National Football League, when he averaged 64.5 catches and scored a total of 26 touchdowns. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor began recruiting Maclin to the Queen City nearly instantly, and now plans on talking to the Bills coaching staff about what the 29-year-old could bring to Buffalo's offense. Jeremy Maclin is not too far removed from the player who torched the Bills in 2015.

Maclin, who had a stunning 1,300 yard season on the Eagles in 2014, signed with the Chiefs the following off-season. As soon as the news broke, fans of many teams that need wide receiver help took to the internet, pleading for their team to sign Maclin.

When you first look at this, you assume that Hill will get an even bigger load now that Maclin is gone. In Buffalo, Maclin should find a comfortable environment, a clear path to a prominent role and a quarterback that wants him around in the same way the one he left behind in Kansas City does.

During their days with the Philadelphia Eagles, Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy had some of their best seasons together.
