49ers troll Bears with tweet celebrating Solomon Thomas sack of Mitchell Trubisky

The NFL draft will begin in about an hour in Philadelphia.

The Chicago Bears pulled off an aggressive trade with the San Francisco 49ers in order to select quarterback Mitch Trubisky at No. 2 on Thursday evening.

Trubisky comes to the Bears after only starting one season at North Carolina.

LSU running back Leonard Fournette went fourth to the Jacksonville Jaguars, two picks before his Tigers teammate, safety Jamal Adams, was called by the New York Jets, and four picks before the Carolina Panthers drafted Stanford junior running back Christian McCaffrey with the eighth overall selection.

While Trubisky comes with some question marks due to inexperience, Garrett was the consensus top player available in this year's draft of the best USA college football players. Sure not all the picks have panned out but several of them have.

- The Ledge (@TheLedgeSports) April 28, 2017Can I just say I LOVE that the Bears drafted up for Trubisky who clearly loves Favre/Packers. "I know how to learn behind a guy".

Trubisky will be Glennon's backup as a rookie and could be the first quarterback taken in the top five picks since Philip Rivers in 2004 to not start a game in his first season.

The 6-foot-2, 222-pound Trubisky completed 68 percent of his passes last season and threw 30 touchdowns to only six interceptions for the Tar Heels during his first and only season as a full-time starter.

In the past, such a lack of college experience always had been a huge, waving red flag - an automatic asterisk, a draft-grade dropper.

The Bears gave up a helluva lot to get him.

But the decision to take Trubisky instead of a likely defensive starter with the second pick indicates a level of confidence the Bears feel in their defensive rebuild.

As for the 49ers, the trade represents an early triumph for a regime led by a first-time head coach and general manager.

The Bears now hold the 36-overall pick-the fourth pick in the second round. However, the acquisition of a QB at the top of the first round immediately starts the clock on Glennon's Chicago tenure. Unlike what most National Football League observers anticipated, where the Bears would make a pick at No. 3 and find a way to trade back into the first round, the Bears did something different.

Cleveland had expected to win the night, with pick Nos. Then, they could aim to trade down to acquire more picks in a few ways. 1, 25 and 29.

The third quarterback snared in the draft also came via a trade as the Houston Texans dealt with the Browns to jump 13 places and claim Clemson signal caller Deshaun Watson with the 12th pick.

Even with that safety net in place, Pace is still walking a high-wire with this move.

They can, and will, maneuver again tonight and tomorrow to add more players in the 2017 NFL Draft.
