National Football League Browns choose Garrett first in NFL entry draft

Cleveland got things going by - surprise! - doing the logical thing.
The Cleveland Brown silenced those doubts when they took Peppers No. 25 in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Browns included, as it turned out.
Garrett is the first Aggie selected No. 1 overall.
Chicago moved from third to second in a trade with San Francisco and selected North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.
Even Trubisky was surprised when his name was called by National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell - "I didn't see that coming at all", he said.
"It's elating", said Garrett's sister, Brea, who won an NCAA indoor track championship at A&M.
Altogether, eight of the first dozen picks were offensive players, including Houston trading up for Clemson QB Deshaun Watson.
Who said this quarterback class was very bad? They felt comfortable with him after spending a lot of time together before the draft.
The Jacksonville Jaguars selected LSU running back Leonard Fournette with the fourth pick, giving Tom Coughlin the bruising back he craves in his return to the floundering franchise.
For much of the round, it was an offensive draft. A third receiver, John Ross of Washington, was taken by Cincinnati, which desperately needs a complement to A.J. Green.
A two-year starter at Michigan, Peppers lined up as a SAM linebacker in the Wolverines 4-3 base scheme last season, moving from the secondary where he previously saw snaps at safety and cornerback (inside and outside).
His 16.2 yards-per-catch average was second-highest among Miami receivers and his steady hands and ability to both make spectacular grabs and shake off would-be defenders made him one of quarterback Brad Kaaya's most reliable targets.
In January, most mocks didn't even have Mahomes in the first round.
"He's one of the premier special teams players in football", Browns Head Coach Hue Jackson said.
In Kansas City, Mahomes doesn't have to start right away.
The draft will continue Friday with rounds 2 and 3.
Part of the reaction to the Trubisky pick factored in the price the Bears paid, two third-rounders and a fourth, to swap picks with the 49ers.
"It really doesn't matter; you guys can call me whatever you want", Trubisky told reporters. It's all about helping the Chicago Bears win, and that's what I'm looking forward to most. My favorite player growing up was Walter Payton.
Trubisky had a breakout junior season for the Tar Heels past year.
There was some thought the Bears might wait a round or two before taking a quarterback after signing Mike Glennon last month to replace the departed Jay Cutler. The best one, Ohio State's Marshon Lattimore, didn't go until New Orleans took him at 11.
It was hard to eliminate my bias for Derek Barnett, but this is an objective decision.
Peppers, 5-10 and 213 pounds, took a drug test in early March at the NFL Scouting Combine, as all prospects do, and tested positive for a dilute sample.
After taking Garrett, the Browns added Michigan's Jabrill Peppers and tight end David Njoku as they look to improve off a horrendous 1-15 season.
As for San Francisco, the 49ers have the same quarterback void and their lack of interest in filling that need at the top of the draft has a clear explanation.
