Senators beat Bruins 2-1 in shootout to pull ahead in chase

"Obviously we were not playing for any position or anything. We try to minimize the times that that happens, and, you know, it's a tough system to play against for sure". I think that everybody has to get ready themselves; they have to realize what they have to do to be in the zone for the playoffs and it's not necessarily that you have to have one-on-one meetings or kind of special meetings for that.

The Bruins host Washington in Boston's regular-season finale Saturday.

The Bruins should make it out of the first round in a close series, but I don't see them surviving the second round. Game 1 can be seen on the NHL Network while Game 2 will be aired on NBC.

As good as the Toronto Maple Leafs have been, the Sens have shut them down multiple times. They looked unsafe with plenty of good movement around the zone on the powerplay, but they only ended up with one shot and no goal.

Stafford gave Boston a 1-0 lead on a power play in the first, but the Senators tied it in the second on Burrows' unassisted goal.

But it's interesting to note that Ottawa is the only playoff team that allowed more goals (214) than they scored (212). Both teams sit just one point ahead of Toronto, who also has an extra game in hand.

It's the first time the Senators will face the Bruins in the playoffs.

While the Bruins said they wouldn't call up Charlie McAvoy this season, Beers said it has to be something they're considering with Krug potentially on the shelf. They won the Cup not too long ago (2011) and a lot of those guys are still there.

Anton Khudobin made 21 saves in two periods before leaving because of illness.

The Caps are 5-1 in their last six road games and 19-7 in their last 26 against a team with a winning record while the Bruins are 6-1 in their last seven overall and 4-1 in their last five home games.

Coach Guy Boucher announced that Karlsson will not play against the Boston Bruins.

Washington Capitals' Andre Burakovsky is dumped by Boston Bruins' Kevan Miller during the first period of an NHL hockey game in Boston Saturday, April 8, 2017. While Ben Harpur may take a brunt of the criticism for failing to get the puck out while killing a penalty, Zdeno Chara made a good play to keep it in, and Anderson stumbled and couldn't get across his crease to stop Stafford from jamming it home.

"Oh, I didn't like it", Cassidy said.

NOTES: C Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson, signed recently by the Bruins, made his National Hockey League debut because Brad Marchand is suspended and Noel Acciari is injured.

Making the task so much more hard will be the potential absence of injured top-four defensemen Torey Krug (suspected knee) and Brandon Carlo (suspected concussion), along with useful fourth-liner Noel Acciari (upper body). They'll take on the Florida Panthers, with the puck dropping at 7 p.m. Still, it's a more winnable matchup for Boston than one with Washington. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was a luxury suite for the game. The Bruins held their "Shirts Off Their Backs" giveaway with the fans after the game. We'll post the schedule when we get it.
