Cormier defeated Johnson to win the vacated light heavyweight title in their first go-round, a matchup that was arranged on short notice after champion Jon Jones, scheduled to fight Johnson, was suspended for a hit-and-run incident that forced him to vacate the title.

Anthony Johnson (22-6 MMA, 13-6 UFC) not only fell short of the light-heavyweight title for a second time in his main-event loss to champ Daniel Cormier (19-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC), but he also abruptly retired from the sport to close out what was a somewhat freaky PPV main card.

Many, including Cormier, believe that Johnson is still in his prime and could still match up well with the top fighters in the division.

In one brief separation, Johnson hit Cormier with a knee to the body and then an explosive high left head kick before they tied up again.

Chris Weidman called for an immediate rematch after his fight, which had been going fairly well for the former middleweight champion, with Gegard Mousasi ended in freakish and controversial fashion midway through the second round.

Doctors ended the fight after checking Weidman's condition - it would be his third consecutive stoppage loss after 13 unbeaten. He doesnt want to win like that I want a rematch right away.”.

Mousasi said afterwards he felt as though Weidman was looking for a way out.

When it was deemed that Weidman couldn't continue after being checked by doctors, the referee stopped the bout and Mousasi was declared the victor. The two fought for the title in 2015, before Jones was stripped of the belt because of legal reasons.

"I gave my commitment to another job", he said after searching in vain for his full coaching staff.

"I will never, ever forget you". I said it in the build-up, 'This is just number one. He lost the opening round to Johnson but he managed to dominate the second to earn the submission victory, per MMA Fighting. "If he wants a rematch, he can have his rematch", Mousasi said.

Cynthia Calvillo earned a submission win in a fight that was almost scrapped over Pearl Gonzalez's breast implants.

The Dutchman made it five straight wins but a mixture of bad officiating and a New York State Athletic Commission still in the fledgling stages of overseeing MMA fights, marred his second-round TKO win.

Calvillo said some time off is next on her agenda. In the post-fight press conference, Cormier compared himself to WWE superstar Roman Reigns.

What's next: Cote announced his MMA retirement following a unanimous-decision loss to Thiago Alves in what was his 21st UFC appearance.

"If Jones fights, Jones is going to be a co-main event anyway".

Charles Oliveira (22-7, 1 NC) had been stubborn about going up to lightweight, only reluctantly agreeing after missing weight several times at featherweight. "I want to talk to my business partners, talk to the UFC and see what they want to do".

"That's not my fault, I don't know", Mousasi said, as quoted on MMAFighting.
