North Carolina, Gonzaga Set To Settle NCAA Title Game

Carolina wasn't shooting well, hadn't shot well all night, but built up an advantage in the paint when Gonzaga got into foul trouble and used that to bang out the victory. Karnowski and Williams are each playing with four. UNC's Kennedy Meeks and Hicks both finished with four fouls.

GOLDMAN: Robert, this game could highlight the unglamorous act of rebounding the ball. UNC is just 3-for-22 from deep. I'll tell you, North Carolina has a little guard who never plays but he's hitting every 3-pointer he takes.

Per Doug Haller of AZ Central, teammates Kennedy Meeks and Justin Jackson joined Berry on the All-Final Four team.

One of UNC's most important players, guard Joel Berry, has sprained ankles and isn't operating near peak effectiveness. Meeks finished with seven points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

Joel Berry has chipped in 6 points and 2 dimes. However, he was short one final play up his sleeve with the Tar Heels up by three points, and the rest is history. UNC is just a hair better at 38%.

Redshirt freshman closer Josh Hiatt, held out last season because he was erratic, worked a combined 4 2/3 scoreless innings Friday and Saturday and earned the save in the opener.

They of course - their reputation - they're blue blood, Robert. The Tar Heels were in the title game previous year and lost on a buzzer-beater to Villanova.

It's been a rough first half for Gonzaga center Przemek Karnowski. "It came down to the last second, but we're national champs now".

But make no mistake.

Carolina shot 35 per cent from the field, a percentage point worse than it did in Saturday's semifinal win over OR, which stood, for two days, as their worst shooting night in a tournament win since 1967.

Overall, Carolina has been to the NCAA title game 11 times now, and the Heels have won more than they've lost, boasting a 6-5 record.

But on Monday night, the Tar Heels celebrated on the court.

"That's the bottom line". NPR's Tom Goldman is in Arizona for the game, and he joins me now from member station KJZZ.

"I know that we did nothing wrong", Williams said. The foul calls stirred up boos from the crowd and backlash on social media, including a tweet from LeBron James, who said: "Man I can't watch this anymore man!" The title game featured a matchup of the two winningest active coaches by winning percentage-Gonzaga's Mark Few (81.9 percent) and NorthCarolina's Roy Williams (79.0 percent).

In dire need of a spark, Jordan Mathews intercepted a Tar Heel pass and drew a foul on the break.

Plenty have doubted Gonzaga.

There will be no heartbreak for the North Carolina Tar Heels this time.

Nigel Williams-Goss of Gonzaga in the Nike LeBron 14. "I'm sitting over there, I'm not thinking the officials are doing a bad job". You have 37 wins in a college season, I mean that's just unbelievable. He said the defeat last season didn't keep him up at night, that he didn't dwell on it. "And we're here to win it". We're talking about a guy who averaged 18.3 points per game here and shot 38 percent from behind the arc.

Gonzaga's Johnathan Williams (3) reacts during the first half in the finals of the Final Four NCAA college basketball tournament against North Carolina, Monday, April 3, 2017, in Glendale, Ariz.

But yeah, North Carolina's athletic director this week said there's no timeline and resolution of this case.
