In the Midst of Dueling Abortion Protests, a Civil Conversation

In many cities, defenders of women's right to choose abortion outnumbered those at the anti-Planned Parenthood rallies, in some cases as many as 10 to 1. The resolution now heads to the Senate, where Sasse is confident the body will follow suit with the House vote and send the measure to the desk of President Trump.
Pro-life leaders applauded the House's approval of the resolution.

The bill does not directly reference Planned Parenthood and would not eliminate family planning services.
Things have only gone from bad to worse for the chain, as recent videos filmed by Lila Rose and her organization, Live Action, caught Planned Parenthood staffers in abortion centers across the country admitting to some variation on, "Uh, we don't provide prenatal care, " to quote one staffer, and affirming that they only do ultrasounds if for the goal of determining the age of a baby set for death row. Reversing the "morally reprehensible" rule "fulfills two promises made to the American people", said Ryan: First, it "restores federalism"; second, it is pro-life.
"This is the definition of coercion", said Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J), on the House floor on Thursday. In recent years, several states receiving Title X family planning grants have opted to direct those funds to county health departments, community health centers, or other types of providers, instead of organizations such as Planned Parenthood. Combined, Title X grants and Medicaid made up almost 60% of all revenue for Title X providers. Lawmakers and governors in 24 states introduced or passed legislation that would have denied funding to the nation's largest abortion provider, which receives about $500 million from taxpayers each year.
Throughout both Democratic and Republican administrations, Title X has been interpreted to prohibit state actions that block providers or classes of providers from participating in a Title X project based on factors unrelated to a provider's qualifications to perform the required services. About 100 people showed up to support Planned Parenthood.
"Planned Parenthood receives $553 million annually from taxpayers, 43% of their annual budget, of which $430 million comes from the federal government", according to the website.
Under the Congressional Review Act, recently implemented regulations require 51 votes for Senate passage. Both the Senate and House passed such a reconciliation proposal past year, but Obama vetoed the bill.

In the House's February 16 roll call, two Democrats - Reps. Collin Peterson, of Minnesota, and Dan Lipinski, of IL. Charles Dent of Pennsylvania and John Faso of NY - voted with 186 Democrats against the bill.
