After her 2016 Grammys performance sounded a bit.well, off, Adele wasn't taking any risks with her tribute to George Michael, who died at Christmas.
James Corden got the 59th Annual Grammy Awards off to a bumbling start when the Late Late Show host jokingly messed up his opening as much as possible.
Beyonce, 35, had gone into Sunday's awards show with a leading nine nominations for her powerful Lemonade album about race, feminism, and betrayal. "I've always loved you and I always will", Adele concluded, after gushing about how much she respected Bey and her album, Lemonade. "You are our light", Adele said.
Later, as she accepted the award for song of the year, Adele apologised for the incident.
Beyonce won only for Best Urban Contemporary Album for Lemonade and Best Music Video for Formation. "I adore you and I want you to be my mummy", Adele quipped.
"With all respect to our sister Beyonce, Beyonce is very attractive to look at and it's more like modelling kind of music - music to model a dress - she's not a singer, singer, with all respect to her". The way you make me feel, and the way you make my black friends feel, is incredible.
Adele confirmed her marriage to partner Simon Konecki at the Grammys on Sunday.
"Adele can sing, sing", he went on.
To be completely honest, I don't know what the hell a Best Rap/Sung Performance is exactly, but every other song in the category included two artists... except "Hotline Bling".
Adele was tearful at the end of the performance but had the clear support from the audience comprising her colleagues, who gave her a standing ovation, and from fans on social media. "The way I felt when I first heard "No No No" was exactly the same as when I first heard 'Lemonade" a year ago... "I'm very humbled and very grateful and gracious, but my life is Beyoncé".
Rihanna was up for an impressive eight awards, but missed out on physically getting her hands on one.
The new version of the "best friends" necklace. She won all three in 2012 as well.
