Auriemma, UConn win record-setting 100th game in a row

Staley wanted the win in February just in case that other one doesn't happen. To give a sense of context, not only had the Huskies won their previous 99 games but had done so by an average margin of victory of 38.7 points.

The Huskies won their 100 consecutive game with a 66-55 victory over SC. I think someone is definitely ready for primetime now.

UConn came away victorious in each one.

UConn is a great program, and has the hardware to back it up, but even the most ardent Husky fan knows if their team had to play UCLA, Stanford, Oregon State, Washington and Arizona State, along with the rest of the Conference of Champions (hey, if Bill Walton says it, it must be true) a minimum of two times a season, they'd still win a lot more than they'd lose, but they wouldn't go undefeated.

"Our defense was not bad", SC coach Dawn Staley said. They don't take even a piece of a play off.

UConn: This was the Huskies 10th game this season against a team in the current Top 25, but only two of those games have come since January 1.

For a moment, it felt like SC could pull the upset.

The Gamecocks are led by the best post duo in the game in 6-foot-5 A'ja Wilson and 6-4 Alaina Coates. The Gamecock duo ended up with a combined 27 points and 20 rebounds, while Williams and Collier had 44 and 23. They've amassed a 36-game consecutive road win streak.

Both, though, have disappeared for stretches when SC focuses on its inside power. The Huskies responded by scoring the final seven points before the break. They played with the determination of a team with no desire to be a footnote in history, took small leads throughout the second quarter, but eventually fell, 66-55.

The Huskies' 100 consecutive wins is an unprecedented feat for likely anyone reading this and certainly our generation. "Four minutes left in the third quarter, it's a three-point game with us with the ball. We can score from all five positions".

UConn is 144-1 in its last 145 games. Williams, who finished on top for the Huskies, added a jumper.

SC held the Huskies scoreless for the first 3:06 of the third quarter, cutting the lead to two.

"Senior night, packed house at Gampel, as always", said Kim Barnes Arico, then the Saint John's coach, now in her fifth season at MI, where she has built a 21-5 tournament-bound team. "I think it was just that what we have here is just so special and we got to really appreciate it tonight", Williams said. "We'll have everybody ready".

Coach Geno Auriemma's squad already owns the longest winning streak in Division I hoops history.

What's going on at UConn is unique; there is something in the teaching method of Geno Auriemma and his longtime assistant Chris Daly that is producing a collaborative basketball that is cut above what you see in any other team, at any level, of either gender. "So I think there was always a little bit of doubt in her mind and when things didn't go her way, that doubt overwhelmed her and you could see it in her body language, see it in her face, everywhere and she would just sabotage herself". 1, 2 and 3 recruits in the country.' But I would answer that with it's hard to put that kind of talent together, keep all the egos in check, and to make sure they're playing together.
