De Randamie defeats Holm to become first UFC women's featherweight champ

De Randamie, Holland's first UFC champion since the legendary Bas Rutten held the heavyweight title in 1999, defeated former bantamweight champion Holly Holm via unanimous decision (48-47 on all scorecards), with her strong counter-striking prevailing over Holm's clinch-heavy tactics.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns in 2017 with its first Pay-Per-View (PPV) event at the Barclays Center in NY on Saturday.

De Randamie denied committing any fouls on objective in her post-fight interview. However, despite the illegal strikes, referee Todd Anderson did not deduct a point from the Dutchwoman - a decision that many felt was baffling.

For her part, de Randamie responded in a Facebook post on Monday released by her management team at Suckerpunch Entertainment after the new champion was forced to miss the post fight press conference as she was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. "That's kind of normal".

"Three years down the track, I probably would have kicked myself if I didn't take the opportunity while it was there". It's a knockdown, you know?

Weirdness aside, Anderson continues to work hard on her game under Krause, and said that anyone who thinks she is simply a stand-up fighter is for a rude awakening. I mean, some of her best shots of the whole night were after the bell. Anderson seemed to be a bit late getting between the two women each time, which is important because the referee officially ends the round, not the bell.

Holm was also critical, claiming de Randamie's blows after the bell were intentional. "I am ranked No. 1 in the world at 145-pounds and feel confident the fans know that too". "What can you do?"

"The company I'm managed by, one of their partners co-owns Glory MMA in Kansas City with James Krause, who is in the UFC and is now my coach", she said.

Instead, Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie fought for the belt and while it was a promising match on paper, it simply didn't deliver.

Holm would respond by reversing the position once again and pushing De Randamie back into the cage.

"I want to say that it was a heated battle with lots of emotion, but I am not a dirty fighter".

Earlier this week, Holly Holm told reporters she was exhausted of being linked to Ronda Rousey and wanted to forge her own identity.

Holm, not the most prolific Tweeter, has yet to respond and if she refuses, Anderson will sadly be without an opponent in either the UFC or Invicta.

After the bell rang again at the end of the third, de Randamie landed a combo on Holm - which left many in shock. With no title on the line, Silva told MMA Junkie this week that his goal is to "go out there and make the fans happy".

Having nine of the 10 bouts go the distance didn't help matters, especially when only one of those contests - the lightweight main card opener between Dustin Poirier and Jim Miller - was exciting enough to get your heart racing. UFC fighter Leslie Smith tweeted. He'd also reffed the Bellator 134 main event between Emanuel Newton and Liam McGeary in CT.
