Previewing and predicting UFC 208 main card events
Feb 12 2017 by Dustin Murphy
Based on those facts, it might sound odd that the UFC has been so heavily criticised for it's decision to place the dutch fighter in the main event of a Pay-per-view and in the inaugural women's featherweight title fight opposite Holly Holm.
Holm came into the UFC in February 2015 with a lot of hype. At 6-3, de Randamie is coming into the octagon off of a two-fight win streak. He also said she turned down two title fights, but she countered that by saying she only wanted the date pushed back so she can appropriately cut weight.
One fight was scrapped from the card when heavyweight Justin Willis was deemed medically unfit to compete.
Anderson Silva (33-8) has been one of the most dominant forces of the middleweight category and had defended the title for record 10 times at the peak of his career. Never mind the fact that Justino is now suspended after getting flagged for an anti-doping violation, in some peoples' minds her absence is enough to somehow invalidate an otherwise fascinating fight. But Tate didn't give up and in the fifth and final round she was able to take the fight to the ground. Just a couple of days after showing interest in a "super fight" with Conor McGregor however, Silva has revealed he's still interested in a fight with St-Pierre. Quality featherweight women are scattered around various promotions, including Invicta FC, where Cyborg reigns, and Bellator MMA, which promotes its title fight next month when veterans Marloes Coenen (23-7) and Julia Budd (11-2) face off.
Holm, now ranked as the number two contender at bantamweight, is strangely entering this title fight on the back of two heavy losses to Meisha Tate and Valentina Shevchenko.
The prior dominance of the Netherlands' De Randamie in kickboxing could force Holm to tweak her fight plan. We have the best stand-up fighters in the world.
Cris "Cyborg" Justino (red gloves) lands a punch to the face of Leslie Smith (blue gloves) during UFC Fight Night at Arena Atletico Paranaense. The addition of the featherweight division shows forward progress for not only the UFC, but for women's MMA everywhere.
Like Silva, Brunson is also on the comeback trail, hoping to avenge his defeat last time out to Robert Whittaker. She became a phenomenon, appearing in movies and on magazine covers.
Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie will be introducing a new female weight class, which is the featherweight weight class at 145 pounds.
Holm opened as a favorite against Germaine de Randamie in the first-ever women's featherweight championship bout, but action on the latter shifted the line. Before that, Brunson was riding high with a five-fight win streak, including an impressive knockout victory over Uriah Hall. If you're a casual fan, you should get on YouTube and see this woman throw hands. Additionally her boxing Pedigree, where she won over 30 legitimate matches and held multiple world titles still make her a potential force in the UFC, though at 35 years old she is definitely on the "B" side of her career.
