DMK: It's against will of Jayalalithaa, people of Tamil Nadu
Feb 06 2017 by Lorena Waters
On 11 May 2015, the Karnataka High Court ruled that the AIADMK leader's conviction "suffered from infirmity and was unsustainable in law", as DNA put it, thus clearing a way for her return as the CM of Tamil Nadu, which she remained until her death late past year.
It has exactly been two months after Tamil Nadu's beloved "Amma" took her last breath and since then politics in the southern coastal state has not been stable.
A Minister said the election of Ms. Sasikala as Chief Minister was not on the agenda of the MLAs meeting. The top civil servant had retired as the chief secretary in 2012.
On two occasions - 1996 and 2011 Jayalalithaa severed ties with Sasikala and threw her out of her home. "The decisions led her to where she is now", Durai Karuna, a senior Tamil political commentator, who has closely observed the AIADMK over three decades had told Outlook. However, whether the new leadership is acceptable to people is a major question.
Just after the election of Sasikala too, Panneerselvam, while leaving the party office, did not show any feelings.
Her name for the post of leader of AIADMK legislature party leader was proposed by Panneerselvam, the party stated. All the MLAs unanimously elected Sasikala as their leader in Assembly.
With scripted precision, Sasikala entered the headquarters, went up the balcony and waved to the people assembled below, raising her right hand to show the "twin leaves" symbol. The people voted for a government to be headed by Ms Jayalalithaa in May, 2016 and not for one to be run by Mr. I have been in the force for 14 years and served CM Amma for 12.
The senior leaders might have started toeing her line, but will Sasikala manage to gain the confidence of grassroots workers who were disillusioned with the death of Jayalalithaa and the tidings thereon, has to be seen. It was the common view.
Now leading Indian cricketer and frontline off-spinner Ravichadnran Aswhin has tweeted that 234 job opportunities in Tamil Nadu is coming up shortly and Tamil Nadu youngsters should be aware about that.
According to government sources, VK Sasikala will be sworn in as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on or before February 9.
After the death of Jayalalithaa's mentor MGR in 1987, Sasikala is said to have offered emotional support to Jayalalithaa.
"I will fuffil the dreams of Amma fully and I give my assurance that this regime will work for the people", Sasikala said with her eyes moist. "Now even we are clueless as to what will happen".
Natarajan was admitted to a corporate hospital after he complained of breathing trouble, they said without divulging any further information.
