Patriots' Brady has his way with Steelers defense ... again
Jan 25 2017 by Dustin Murphy
The dream pairing of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady strike again, leading New England past Pittsburgh and to a record ninth Super Bowl. We gotta take our hats off to him. According to STATS, Inc., the Falcons had were the first team in National Football League history to have 10 players with two or more touchdown receptions in a season.
There was plenty of time to celebrate because the Patriots, with help from the Steelers, put this one out of reach relatively early.
Chris Hogan played one year of college football. He threw for 384 yards and three scores in the 36-17 win.
The Pack D had no answer for Ryan, who threw for a whopping 396 yards and completed 27 of 38 passing attempts on his way to slotting 4 touchdown passes for the day. However, Hogan never made the 53-man roster and later joined the Buffalo Bills, where he played three seasons, catching a total of 87 catches for 959 yards and six touchdowns.
Running back Le'Veon Bell left Sunday's game late in the first quarter with a groin injury.
It will be the Falcons' second Super Bowl appearance. His deep ball was almost flawless all game as he connected with WR Chris Hogan for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns on 9 receptions.
"Great players. It's all about the players", Belichick said. "He's extremely intelligent and his leadership, as good as anyone who has ever played the game". There were four times as much money on New England as had been wagered on Atlanta in the Super Bowl futures odds, MGM vice president of race and sports Jay Rood said. "Have they not been around for the other games?"
Hogan's two touchdowns came on blown assignments and trickeration.
Pittsburgh had drawn to 10-6 on DeAngelo Williams' 5-yard run to cap an 84-yard drive.
The Steelers never threatened to get back into it. LeGarrette Blount punctuated the romp with a bruising 18-yard run on which he carried almost the entire Pittsburgh defense with him. Hopefully TE Martellus Bennett will be healthy enough to be a larger contributor. Gostkowski is fourth all-time. The Steelers no trail 17-9 as we approach halftime. Instead of being just four points down, the Steelers were eight points down and then the wheels fell off in the third quarter. Well, just like with the rest of the NFL, Brady and company have had their way with Atlanta, however, when they meet on February 5 in Houston, it will be for something most fans will remember a lot more than a regular season game - it's for a World Championship.
The two conference championships were rematches from October, so the games were literal manifestations of the phrase "familiarity builds contempt".
