Jordy Nelson Injury: Packers Receiver Ruled Out For Playoff Game Vs. Cowboys
Jan 14 2017 by Irving Hamilton
Quarterback T.J. Yates played on one snap in the Miami Dolphins loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
The series between the Packers and Cowboys are tied at 17 a piece.
"I don't think [the missed chance] bothers me as much because they know they're lucky we didn't beat the Green Bay Packers", Pugh said of the Cowboys. Dak Prescott appears to have nerves of steel. Worry about the rest later.
Dana Bilello says the Green Bay gatherings are reserved for only the biggest of games and Sunday's certainly qualifies. The victor of this game will move to the NFC title game against either the Atlanta Falcons or Seattle Seahawks. "But I feel like we've accomplished that with this new schedule that we've been on". The Packers are the hottest team in the league, riding the aforementioned seven-game leadership. Aaron Rodgers can take over a game, but if the Packers' erratic defense isn't up to the task of stopping Prescott and Elliot, this could go to the Cowboys.
Green Bay averaging 30.4 points per game on road in playoffs since 2006, most in National Football League in that span. Packers coach Mike McCarthy has nine playoff wins, tied with Vince Lombardi and Mike Holmgren for most in club history. It wouldn't surprise anyone if Rodgers played another flawless game and the Packers moved on.
Keep in mind: The first time the Packers played Dallas, they allowed a season-high 191 rushing yards. Jared Cook, who is Rodgers' first formidable threat at tight end since Jermichael Finley went down with a neck injury in 2013, creates matchup nightmares.
The Cowboys, who are striving for their first NFC Championship Game appearance in 22 years, would host either the Falcons or Seahawks should they win.
As is often the case, this game will be a quarterback showdown between Rodgers and Prescott.
Questions like: What's your previous experience rooting for the Dallas Cowboys? Garrett has a $20 million weapon at his disposal that no other coach in these playoffs does. Romo can make it a half. Jordy Nelson's injury, obviously, could not have come at a worse time, but unlike last season, the Packers have some capable options if Nelson has to sit out or is rendered ineffective.
Aaron Rodgers has three straight four-touchdown, no-interception games. "He's feeling better every day", McCarthy said. He has done this before in a similar situation, albeit at vastly different positions. LB Julius Peppers has 143 1/2 career sacks, fifth most since 1982. Marion Barber was the closer off the bench. The Cowboys have a dynamic offense this season, led by a pair of rookies, quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott. The Cowboys can basically beat the Packers any way they want.
As for what that emergency is?
"That's what we're focusing on this week, is being accountable and doing our job and being where we need to be".
