Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill ruled out vs. Steelers

If the Dolphins win Sunday, Tannehill could return for their second-round game January 14 at New England. They must control the interior on what's expected to be a cold day and spring Bell loose for a big game.

Multiple media reports yesterday indicated Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill would not be available for the team's Wildcard playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

Tannehill, meanwhile, was a limited participant in practice for the first time since sustaining slight tears in the MCL and ACL of his left knee on December 11 against Arizona. Moore is 15-13 as starter, 8-7 with Dolphins.

"He knows he's our relief pitcher", offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen said. "The other deal is on the side". We're going to go in prepared like we've always prepared.

"Moore knows he's our relief pitcher".

Gase observed Tannehill closely and had no doubts choosing Moore was the right way to go. And so I think we go into the game with that confidence and if we execute and handle all the details. "We'll have better idea, especially once we hit Wednesday, but probably Tuesday, I'll have a good idea so gameplan-wise we can figure out what's going on".

"That's something we're working through, just figuring out where my knee is at structurally, " Tannehill said. The Dolphins beat the Steelers in the 1972 and 1984 AFC championship games to advance to the Super Bowl.

The Steelers and their quarterback Ben Roethlisberger have a good deal of playoff experience.

"We're gonna focus on the things that are in our control and that's our preparation and ultimately our play", Steelers Head Coach, Mike Tomlin said. "No, it was very real". "You still have to take the same approach".

Ajayi had seven runs of 10 or more yards against the Steelers, including three of 20, 33 and 62 yards. "We need that respect back and we need it against the Dolphins". We'll just kind of take it one step at a time. And Roethlisberger's career playoff record is the exact same as Staubach at 11-6.

Jones had 36 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 14 games this season, including five starts. "It's important to play your best football late in the season when it matters the most". Staying healthy is such a key component to that.

The game kicks off at 1 p.m. There's nearly no chance Tannehill will return for this game. "What do you think, I have a temperature gauge on?"

- LB James Harrison is the Steelers' leader with 81.5 sacks and has six sacks in his past eight playoff games.

"I want to go out there and show people what I can do".

Expect Pittsburgh to score easily Sunday, with Bell gashing through a Dolphins run defense that allows 4.9 yards per carry. "He's tall like myself, but he has incredible patience and a great awareness of the game, and he's extremely versatile". Getting a push up front and disrupting Roethlisberger's rhythm in the pocket will need to be a priority for Miami's defensive line, namely Ndamukong Suh, Earl Mitchell, Cameron Wake and Jordan Phillips. The playoffs, they've gotten some guys back, we've gotten some guys.

The Miami players say who plays quarterback for them isn't an issue.

"It's exciting to be back out there", Tannehill said after practice.

"That's what I keep bringing up", Gase said. "That's all I can do". "There's enough to worry about with Pittsburgh".

Gase also confirmed Friday during his post-practice press conference that starting cornerback Byron Maxwell is doubtful for Sunday's game.

There's a scene in "The Green Berets" where Captain Nim, played by George Takei, looks skyward to miserable, rainy, monsoon-like conditions and comments, "This sure is Charlie weather", alluding to flawless enemy strike conditions.
