'Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants - 12/22/16 NFL Pick, Odds, and Prediction'

Dave Zangaro

Wind out of the northwest at 12 miles per hour. The Eagles got this pick from the Sam Bradford trade.

The Eagles lost 27-26 when they missed on a 2-point conversion with 4 seconds left rather than kicking the extra point to force overtime. Manning threw four touchdown passes in the game, including a pair to Beckham Jr., while Wentz threw for 364 yards for the Eagles.

With mostly the same offensive line a year ago and an upgrade at receiver with the return of Odell Beckham Jr. and Victor Cruz as well as the drafting of second-round slot receiver Sterling Shepard, it stands to reason that things would have gotten better, not worse.

The New York Giants can clinch a play-off place with victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night.

Tight End: Zach Ertz only has two touchdown receptions this season, but he's consistently been one of Wentz's favorite targets, as evidenced by his 79-, 112- and 80-yard performances over his last three games. Has 88.5 rating in 6 career home games.RB RYAN MATHEWS has 5 rush TDs in past 6. He has three interceptions this season. Just in case they will end up with the same record with the Cowboys, they will win their division. Mathews scored in the first game, but, only had five carries.

This is Johnson's first game back from suspension. Once again, the wide receivers were a non-factor, combining for just 47 yards. They must keep Beckham in front of them. He's the sixth-best guard in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus, with an 86.6 grade. WR STERLING SHEPARD ranks 2nd among National Football League rookies with 592 rec. yards & ties for 2nd with 7 TD catches. Their only road wins of the season. Last time they were above 32 minutes for entire season was 1996 (32:12).

5 interceptions (1 returned for a TD).

The Eagles' ground game will get a boost from running back Darren Sproles, who was cleared after undergoing concussion protocol. Is 1st player in National Football League history with 80+ catches & 1,000+ rec. yards in each of 1st 3 seasons. However, even back then it was a long shot, as a team with a rookie quarterback and a rookie head coach didn't have much of a chance to drag its playoffs hopes into the Christmas season.

On the atmosphere at Lincoln Financial Field: "Any time you play in Philadelphia, it's going to be a rowdy crowd". Their running game is not very impressive. Rashad Jennings leads the team with just 497 yards at 3.2 yards per carry. But the Giants have also gotten production from Sterling Shepard, who has seven TDs. If the Giants are going to make a serious playoff run (granted they get in, of course), they'll need the offense to come around at some point. Tackle Fletcher Cox added another sack against the Ravens and leads the team with six and a half, one more than end Brandon Graham. Jordan Hicks is quietly having a standout season at middle linebacker. Collins, has blossomed into a playmaker at safety.

Eagles: Doug Pederson deserves credit for aggressiveness.

NY (10-4) is in a good spot in regards to making the playoffs.

Philadelphia enters play at 5-9 and out of the NFC playoff picture entirely. Here too they are the opposite of the Eagles as the Giants are 8-2 in one score games. The Eagles have recorded an interception in each of their last two games.
